Voice recording

Sing, rap, narrate or read aloud in a dedicated booth while an engineer watches levels, takes notes and prepares files you can hand straight to a mixer.

Japanese singer with headphones performing in the vocal booth

Voice recording at valvularcloudco is built around an isolation booth of about 12 square metres, separate from the 42 m² live room. Sessions run from the control room with nearfield monitors and 32-channel routing so you hear yourself clearly against the backing track.

Artists book us for lead vocals, doubles, narration and spoken-word projects. Mixing and mastering are separate services (Mixing, Mastering), but we can comp and export WAV tracks before you leave so the next stage starts cleanly. See All services for the full menu.

How it works

  1. Brief

Tell us song count, length, references and whether you bring an instrumental via Contact. We reply within 2 business days with a time and fee outline.

  2. Setup

Mic height, pop filter and headphone mix are dialled in. Choose from 8 headphone pairs or bring your own with an adapter if needed.

  3. Record

Full passes and section punches. We log take numbers and notes so comping later is straightforward.

  4. Handoff

Within the booked time we comp agreed parts, trim silence and export aligned WAV files via link or your drive.

Projects that fit the booth

The booth suits anything where the voice is the focus: lead vocals on a single, stacked chorus parts, game dialogue, training narration or podcast intros. Full-band run-throughs belong in Rehearsal recording; talk-heavy shows fit Podcast production.

Many clients replace home-recorded guides with booth takes on the same day. We confirm tempo, key and bar offsets before the first pass. New clients can skim FAQ for studio etiquette.

Typical bookings

  • Indie A-side lead and doubles.
  • Chapter-by-chapter audiobook narration.
  • Multiple ad-read variants for client approval.
  • Choir section overdubs after rehearsal.
  • Rap ad-lib passes on a dedicated track.
  • Streaming cover vocals without mixing yet.

Room layout and monitoring

The booth sits inside a three-room facility founded in 2019. Engineers monitor on 4 nearfield pairs and route through a 32-input console. Visual contact through the booth window keeps direction simple without talkback lag.

HVAC runs between takes; please pause before sensitive phrases. 森田 健司 and the studio team share session duties listed on About us.

Headphone mix

We adjust vocal level, low end and reverb send per performer. Bring familiar headphones if you like; tell us the connector in advance.

Before you arrive

Send backing tracks as 48 kHz / 24-bit WAV when possible. Print lyrics or load them on a tablet, and limit reference tracks to two or three titles. Our Vocal session preparation article walks through a practical checklist.

  • Tempo and key if known.
  • Whether you start at bar one or a pickup.
  • Double and ad-lib plan.
  • Who mixes downstream (you, us or a third party).
  • Whether you need raw takes only or a comp.

How we run the session

The first half hour covers mic choice and gain staging. We iterate distance and angle to control plosives and sibilance, then move song by song or chapter by chapter. Take sheets mark bars, status and comments.

Breaks are yours to take. We only comment on pitch, timing or delivery when you ask for feedback. We avoid marathon passes that fatigue the voice.

Track naming

Names mirror the take sheet so Mixing here or elsewhere stays organised. If you book mixing with us, filenames carry through unchanged.

Delivery formats

Default delivery is multitrack WAV at 48 kHz / 24-bit, aligned to session start. We can export both consolidated comps and individual takes when time allows. Same-day stereo rough bounces are possible if requested before wrap.

Loudness targets and platform-specific masters belong in Mixing or Mastering. See Mastering formats and delivery for format vocabulary. Links are standard; USB drives are welcome for large sessions.

Rates (incl. VAT)

FAQ

How long should I book for one song?

For a three- to four-minute track with lead and a few doubles, plan on two to three hours including setup. Longer narration or many doubles may fit the four-hour block at ¥35,200. Send a track list via Contact for a tighter estimate.

Can I bring only an instrumental?

Yes. WAV is preferred over lossy formats. A click or tempo map helps editing. Many artists keep a home guide vocal and replace it with booth takes on the day.

Can you mix on the same day?

We can bounce a rough stereo preview if time remains. Proper balancing is booked as Mixing. Read Mixing budget guide for scope and pricing habits.

How many guests can sit in the control room?

One or two guests beyond the performer is typical. Larger groups may be limited for monitoring clarity and safety—mention headcount when booking.

What if I am ill on the session date?

Contact us early. Cancellations are free until 7 days before the date. After that, Terms and conditions may apply to the deposit. We reschedule when slots allow.

May I bring my own microphone?

Possible with prior notice. Tell us the connector and phantom power needs. Often the house mics are faster and sound great—ask if unsure.
