Vocal session preparation

Engineer-led Voice recording in our isolation booth (about 12 sqm) starts at ¥8,800 per hour. Half of a smooth session happens before you reach Dogenzaka: rest, organised files, and a clear goal for the block. This guide is practical studio advice, not medical instruction.

Vocalist being prepared with mic height adjustment

Define one outcome for the block

Decide whether you are tracking lead vocals for several songs, stacking doubles, recording narration, or laying a quick demo guide. The outcome drives how many hours you need. valvularcloudco offers hourly booking at ¥8,800, plus ¥35,200 for four hours and ¥61,600 for an eight-hour day.

If you cover multiple titles, send a priority-ordered list when you contact us so we can prep mic choice and monitor mix. See voice recording for rates and workflow details.

Voice care the day before and on the day

Shibuya nights stay busy, so prioritise sleep and hydration before a sensitive condenser session. Heavy caffeine, alcohol, or shouting at live venues often shows up in sibilance and breath control. Throat sweets and gargling help some singers; strong menthol right before tracking can change airflow, so stick to what you already trust.

During pollen season or before a release show, consider tracking comfortable mid-range parts first and leaving extreme high notes for later passes. If you must postpone, terms allow lower cancellation fees when you notify us at least 7 days ahead.

Lyrics, tempo, and references

Pick one lyric version where line breaks match how you actually sing. For temp guides, bring a WAV with click or a clear pre-count so we can manage takes efficiently. Reference mixes help, but heavily limited streaming masters can mislead monitor tuning; a pre-master mix is a better target.

For downstream budgeting, read mixing budget guide once your vocal edits are scoped.

What to bring

  • Photo ID (sessions are for guests aged 18 and over)
  • In-ears or headphones if you prefer your own (we have 8 pairs on hand)
  • Lyrics, charts, and session notes
  • DAW project name and BPM even if you are not printing stems here
  • Booking confirmation and a reachable phone (03-6455-8820)

Loose jewellery and rustling clothing cause pops in a tight 12 sqm booth. Leave bulky bags in the lounge and enter with essentials only.

From arrival to first usable take

About 8 minutes on foot from Shibuya Station (Hachiko Exit) via JR, Tokyo Metro, Tokyu and Keio lines. Walk up Dogenzaka to 1-24-8 and take the elevator to basement level 1. Hours are Monday–Friday 11:00–22:00, Saturday 10:00–20:00. Closed Sundays and public holidays. Managing member Morita engineers many vocal dates, though schedules may assign another engineer. After setup we run a test pass for gain staging, headphone balance, and noise floor before committing keeper takes.

Short breaks between passes help consistency. Write down engineer notes on consonants, breath edits, or pitch targets so later comping stays coherent.

Delivery and archives

We deliver agreed formats (typically 24-bit WAV per song) at the end of the block. Projects stay on our systems for about 12 months, but keep your own backup as well. Processing follows our privacy policy.

If you continue to mixing, consistent track names such as Lead Vox and Ad Libs keep revision rounds within the 2 included passes where applicable.

First-time clients often book a short block to learn the booth and monitoring before committing to a full EP day. Narration and spoken-word projects use the same engineered workflow.
